Just what the heck is going on here?

Well … sit back and I'll tell you …

In 1969, there was no such thing as a "Touring Bike". I know … hard to believe, right? It's true though. If you wanted a motorcycle that could "Tour" on, you strolled into your local Harley-Davidson shop … sized up the new Electra-Glide, picked a color and bought it.

Problem #1 - This is "just a motorcycle". Where do you put your stuff? How do you ride all day without getting beat to death at highway speeds? That's where the parts department came in. You paid for your bike and walked straight back to the parts counter and snatched up a set of "touring bags" and a "touring fairing". They handed them to you over the counter and it was YOUR JOB to paint them to match the bike and then bolt them on.

Problem #2 Painting takes time AND it's costs money! A few folks had the patience and extra scratch to get that cone, but most didn't. They slapped 'em on there and rode it like that. This is the way that those of us who grew up in the 70's remember "Dressers" looking because this is the way most folks rode them.

Cut to 2021 --- Harley-Davidson introduces the new "Icon Model". The Electra-Glide Revival. A "brand new", 1969 FLH with the accessory bags and fairing added they way they were handed to you … "Gel coated and ready for paint". (these actually are Birch White, but you get the point) For the base bike, H-D chose a a historically correct color/scheme in the ever popular "HiFI Blue and Matte Black" (they didn't call it "denim then) with historically correct badging on the side of the tank and an "old school" cursive "Electra-Glide" script on the front fender and … Voila!

A modern collectible. and this one is just the way you want them. A true "collector quality" motorcycle. The only thing missing is the stock exhaust, and we can probably help you with that. I'm sure we've got a set lying in the back somewhere.
